EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING

Executive Functioning refers to the ability to develop plans, initiate appropriate actions, monitor progress, and modify the plan when necessary.  These skills are crucial, as they allow individuals to maintain situational awareness, predict possible outcomes by assimilating past experiences, and accommodating to match environmental norms.  Executive functioning skills are frequently lacking in those with autism spectrum disorders.  We work very closely with clients to develop these skills.  Our approach involves breaking tasks down into small, achievable increments and working with families to foster independence and skill development.  We impart strategies for task completion, which includes a heavy emphasis on time management and organization.
